Mercedes-Benz is known for being a premier compact luxury SUV automaker. When you’re in the market for a new Mercedes SUV, you’re probably thinking about space, power, and overall performance. Both the 2021 GLB and 2021 GLC are great SUV models, but they have a few differences. Let’s take a look to see where they differ.

Seating and space

If you’ve got a sports team to cart to practice in Hope Valley or a carpool group to commute with to Duke, the Mercedes-Benz GLB has space for up to seven passengers, making it more spacious than many other SUVs in its class. In contrast, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC has enough space for 5 passengers in its cabin, as well as a coupe variant if you really enjoy a sleek ride.

Both SUVs have lots of cargo space for a weekend trip to the Smokies, but the 2021 GLB has a bit more: 62 cubic feet versus the 56.5 cubic feet of the GLC. The GLB also has a wide variety of seating configurations, with the 40/20/40-split 2nd row and available 50/50-split third-row. Taller drivers (and passengers) will enjoy the greater legroom and headroom of the GLB as well.

Power and performance

Both the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC and new GLB boast powerful engines with plenty of horsepower and torque for accelerating out of a stoplight in Bethesda or slide around traffic on I-85. However, the GLC offers a bit more performance than the GLB, as well as a wider variety of engine options, including twin-turbo V6s and V8s. If you want a sportier drive in central North Carolina, go for the new Mercedes GLC.

Of course, the greater performance of the GLC means it’s a bit thirstier than the Mercedes GLB. On average, the GLC will burn gas at a rate of about one more MPG than the GLB. The other trade-off with the more performative GLC is its greater price. It’ll run a few thousand dollars more expensive than a similarly-optioned GLB, but if you love to drive, it’s worth it.
