After languishing for years in science fiction and futurists' imaginations, electric vehicles are finally taking the auto world by storm. Recent advances in battery, construction, and automotive computer technology have made electric vehicles more viable and exciting than ever before.
Mercedes-Benz is entering the exciting fray of electric cars with the Mercedes-EQ line, the first of which is Mercedes-Benz EQS, a sedan like the S-Class that's been well-loved for decades, but with an electrified powertrain that improves the experience. Read on for more information about this new chapter in Mercedes' history.
What is Mercedes-Benz: All-Electric Vehicles?
Mercedes-Benz: All Electric Vehicles is the next iteration of Mercedes-Benz's electric engineering future. This new wave of electric vehicles, the first of which being the EQS, will usher in a new era of luxury electric driving, with S-class levels of luxury, sophisticated electronic architecture, plug-in hybrids with advanced technology, and more.
The All-Electric Vehicle from Mercedes-Benz line will feature the visionary technology of the MBUX Hyperscreen, which boasts impressive computing power to integrate artificial intelligence into your drive. Eight CPU cores, 24 gigabytes of RAM and 46.4 gigabytes per second RAM memory bandwidth enable it to think with almost human speed, and twelve actuators behind the touchscreen surfaces provide feedback at your touch.
When you purchase a Mercedes-Benz: All-Electric Vehicle, you'll also get a charging station installed in your own garage, so you can charge overnight and be ready to hit the road whenever. Plus, through partnerships and our own initiatives, we'll provide our customers with unprecedented access to charging stations across the country.
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS
The first vehicle to arrive in the Mercedes-Benz: All-Electric Vehicle line is the Mercedes-Benz EQS, an electrified luxury sedan that's everything you expect from a Mercedes while staying electric through and through. Not only is it beautifully designed and fully integrated with the latest driving technology, it employs Electric Intelligence to calculate your route while accounting for charging stops, weather conditions, and topography to ensure your journey flows as smoothly as the EQS itself.
EQS Design & Technology
Like any Mercedes-Benz, the EQS is designed to be the ultimate in sophistication, luxury, comfort, and ease of use. The new-generation MBUX Multimedia System with Augmented Reality Navigation system includes Natural Language Understanding and Keyword Activation, so you can talk to your car with a “Hey Mercedes” and it'll take you where you need to go.
On the EQS 580, an optional MBUX Hyperscreen offers three displays under a single 56-inch curved glass surface, with haptic feedback and a “Zero Layer” principle to keep you focused on the road. And with up to 7 profiles activated by biometric authentication, voice control and facial recognition, everyone who drives your Mercedes EQS can make it their own.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS looks just as smart on the outside as it is on the inside. It's seductively sculpted to be one of the most aerodynamic production vehicles on the road. The ultra-sleek exterior includes an LED lightband that stretches across the entire grille, captivating and enticing you to step inside. And automatic comfort doors open and close for you automatically, giving you ultimate control on ingress and egress from the EQS.
EQS Performance
Of course, Mercedes wouldn't release a car if they weren't sure it could live up to the name – so you can rest assured that this electric Mercedes will be just as powerful as you've come to expect with internal combustion models. With an estimated top speed of 130 mph, the EQS earns its stripes with up to 516 hp and 511 lb-ft of torque in the EQS 580 4MATIC model.
All of that power can be charged from your DC fast charging station in only 31 minutes, too, meaning that just because it's an electric doesn't mean you have to let it slow you down. Using a traditional 240V AC charging port, the EQS will charge in 11.25 hours, meaning you won't have to sweat the daily commute even if you don't have the fast charger.
When Can I Get the Mercedes EQS?
